Ray Dalio is one of the most influential people in America having made the Time 100 list of most influential people in 2012. Dalio is the founder of the investment firm Bridgewater Associates located in Westport, Connecticut. Dalio was born in Queens, New York and started investing at the young age of 12. One of his greatest successes at the age of 12 was when he purchased $300 worth of shares of Northeast Airlines and tripled it when Northeast Airlines merged with another company. Dalio graduated from Long Island University and later received his MBA from Harvard Business School.
One of Dalio’s first jobs following school was working on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. After spending some time working with Dominick & Dominick LLC. and Shearson Hayden Stone, Dalio Bridgewater Associates in 1975.
With an estimated net worth in the $14 billion range as of 2014, Dalio has shown his philanthropic side agreeing to pledge half of his net worth to charity by signing The Giving Pledge. Ray has also started his own philanthropic organization, The Dalio Foundation. In 2013, it was reported that he contributed $400 million to the organization.
