Michael Dell is the founder and CEO of Dell Inc., a multinational computer technology company. In addition to his computer company, Michael is also an investor, philanthropist and author. Dell was born and raised in Houston, Texas where during high school he started selling subscriptions of the Houston Post during the summers.
Dell went on to attend the University of Texas as a pre-med student. However, as a student he began his own company putting together computers and selling upgrade kits for personal computers. Slowly but surely, Dell the company was forming. In 1992, Dell was recognized as the youngest (27 years old) CEO of a Fortune 500 company.
In 1999, Michael and Susan Dell established the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation. The foundation focuses on grants, childhood health, urban education and family economic stability. By 2010, the foundation had committed more than $650 million to children’s issues and community initiatives in South Africa, India and the United States. In 2012, they donated $50 million for medical education. In 2016, the Dell Medical School, the medical school at the University of Texas at Austin will begin enrolling students.
